Some Frill Stencil Pigeons

 Hello There Everyone!

Today I'm showing you some of my Frill Stencil Pigeons.  I've obtained most of these birds from Dwayne in Bishop Lavis.  The ones I've obtained from Kuben (Sky Lofts, in Kuilsriver) will be shown in future posts.  Most of these birds were still very young when I got them, so they've changed quite a bit over the past two to three years (so Dwayne probably won't recognize them, although Kuben would, because he paid me a visit not too long ago).  Some birds I've developed through my own process of matching and breeding.  So, in the near future you'll be able to see quite a bit of variation.

As my blog suggests, I firmly believe Pigeons Must Fly, therefore the aim is to enhance the ability of my stencil birds to fly better and circle longer.  Yes, unlike many Stencil and Fancy Pigeon keepers, I truly believe that all my pigeons must get as much opportunity to come out in the open and fly around. And to be honest all my birds do come out frequently.  In addition to the Stencil Homers, I have a few very colourful Racing Homers and some Fancy Birds: (French) Cauchois , Dutch Highflyers and Danish Suabians.

So, having said that - perhaps I should also show you guys some of my birds circling around.  I'll show you some video clips of my birds enjoying the outdoors in the next post!

Oh, yes while you are here, let me inform you that I'll be going back to some of my previous posts from time to time to add more info or pics - because the aim is to inform and to educate others in terms of this fairly new phenomenon.  So, you are most welcome to revisit those posts again in future.

Let's have a look at some Frill Stencils:

Thank you!

Blue Stencil Pigeons (with White Bars)

 Hi there, Friends!

Here are some of the Blue Stencil Birds I have.  Most of these guys I've bred out during last year (2022).

They do however originate from two beautiful birds I was gifted by my friend, Kuben - as well as from one bird I purchased from my other pigeon buddy, Dwayne.  Both of them have been breeding stencil pigeons for a few years.

I trust you'll enjoy viewing these babies!  Please don't hesitate to send me your comments.

Please click on the picture below to view the short video:

Why Share???

Why am I sharing this video?

First of all, the number of pigeon fanciers who are keeping and breeding Stencil Pigeons are growing - so I'm sure they'll be interested in developments in this field.  I would like comments from you guys & suggestions for future developments.

Secondly, for those who are more versed in the 'Stencil Homer Terminology', i.e. Frill & Toy Stencil & the specifics related to the birds I share from time to time, please comment in order to inform others as well.

And finally, there are many people who may not wish to keep birds as a hobby, but I'm sure they'll enjoy viewing these beauties & perhaps also learn about their features.

If anyone wish to comment, you can do so on this blog or on YouTube.  You may also send me your comments via email to: idreeskamish@gmail.com

I may post your comments on my future blogs!

PS:  These guys are not for sale at present.  However I will be posting some other birds in the near future that may be for sale.  If anyone is however interested in any specific pigeon, please let me know and I'll either refer you to someone else who might have for sale, or if you're patient I'll breed more in future to make available for sale.

Thank you! 🙏

Beautiful Stencil Pigeons Flying around

 Hi there Everyone!

I've decided to show some video clips of my beautiful Stencil Homers as well as some other colorful pigeons.

Here's a clip short clip of some of my Black Stencil Homers.  Most of these beauties originated from my good friend & brother, Kuben (Sky Lofts) - who is well known as one of the top Stencil Pigeon Breeders in Cape Town.

As you probably know our birds are currently still in the process of molting in Cape Town and South Africa at large, so some of them might not look that good due to having lost some feathers.  But on the whole, they are most definitely in good shape.

Enjoy watching this short clip & let me know what you think:

Definitions/ Terminology relating to Pigeons

 Definitions/ Terminology relating to Pigeons

 1. SQUAB: (Plural: squabs or squab):

a fledgling bird specifically : a fledgling pigeon about four weeks old.

 2. FLEDGLING:

a young bird that acquired the feathers necessary for flight or independent activity
also : a young bird that is able leave the nest after acquiring such feathers

3. NESTLING:
a young pigeon or bird that has not acquired feathers (or enough feathers) to fly/ leave the nest and is still dependent on the parents to feed and care for it. It appears to have yellow "hair" on the body.
(NOTE: young pigeons that are able to leave the nest (fledglings) are able to feed on their own, but they still very much depend on the parents to feed them in addition to what they eat during the first few weeks after leaving the nest.)

Young (baby) pigeons eating outside loft

 Hello there all Pigeon-Lovers!

I took a short video and a few snap shots of some of my very young squabs.  Before doing this I put about 10 of the little ones outside the loft and threw some mealies (corn) and pigeon seeds on the floor to see if they are going to eat by themselves.

They are all just a few weeks old.

Here they are:

Most Colourful Pigeons For Sale!

 Hi there Pigeon-Lovers!

For those who have been messaging me regarding the pigeons for sale posted before https://pigeonsmustfly.blogspot.com/2021/11/colourful-pigeons-for-sale.html unfortunately most of them have been sold.

Yes, it was really sad to get rid of them, but as I said before, one can only keep so many birds... Especially if you intend taking good care of them.  Besides, I breed colourful pigeons-not only because I like them for myself, but because I'd like more people to have them.

Since I'm reducing, due to having too many birds at presents, I've decided to sell these birds at the very very low price of R65 (ZAR65) each.  Remember I'm in Cape Town, South Africa, so please only contact me for these birds if you are able to collect them yourself or prepared to pay for transportation, which will most certainly inflate the price.

So here are some pics of the pigeons that are now available for sale:

Why Pigeons Fight

Hi there, All Pigeon Lovers

If you have been keeping pigeons a while, you would have seen your birds fighting from time to time.

For those who are still fairly new to pigeon keeping, I found a website that gives brief info pertaining to the various reasons pigeons fight.  Here's a link 🔗Why pigeons fight

Of course it's mostly the cocks that fight, but occasionally the hens might fight as well, especially when they're on eggs or protecting their young.

Here's a short video clip of two of my cocks that got into a fight.

The blue pied stencil cock is protecting his territory as well as the young squabs, which you unfortunately can't see in this video.  The red cock returned after a few months (I gave it to a friend) and decided to reclaim his territory.

Let's see what happens:
