Definitions/ Terminology relating to Pigeons
1. SQUAB: (Plural: squabs or squab):
a fledgling bird specifically : a fledgling pigeon about four weeks old.
2. FLEDGLING:
a young bird that acquired the feathers necessary for flight or independent activity
also
: a young bird that is able leave the nest after acquiring such feathers
3. NESTLING:
a
young pigeon or bird that has not acquired feathers (or enough
feathers) to fly/ leave the nest and is still dependent on the parents
to feed and care for it. It appears to have yellow "hair" on the body.
(NOTE:
young pigeons that are able to leave the nest are able to feed on their
own, but they still very much depend on the parents to feed them in
addition to what they eat during the first few weeks after leaving the
nest.)
